Sondrio is a charming mountain town located at the foot of the Rhaetian Alps. The town centre is defined by the Piazza Garibaldi, which is surrounded by gorgeous neoclassical buildings. Although the climate here is cool, the surrounding land is rich, and the region is known for producing Valtellina apples, honey and mushrooms.
Near Sondrio is the Skiarea Valtellina, which is a wonderland for lovers of winter sports. In summer, there are excellent hiking and biking trails, especially along the trails of the Orobie Valtellinesi Park, with the village of Valmalenco being the perfect home base for mountain climbers.
