Travel tips

Roma

Attracting hordes of tourists each year, Roma, which is also more commonly known as Rome in English, is the capital of Italy, and is one of its most loved and visited cities. With an abundance of fine architecture, historical buildings, delicious food and impressive cultural attractions, it is little wonder that Roma sits at the top of any visitors lists of places to see.

History

There is so much history in Roma, and visitors will be hard-pressed to see everything on offer. Some of the must-see attractions include the Colosseum, the Pantheon and St Peter’s Basilica, which sits inside the Vatican City. In addition to these major attractions, there are also a great many smaller local attractions that will give you a sense of the long and interesting history that has shaped Roma throughout the centuries.

Culture

Roma is one of the best places to enjoy museums and galleries in Italy, and visitors will certainly find themselves spoilt for choice. Some highlights include the Vatican Museums, the Museo Nazionale di Villa Giulia, the Borghese Gallery and Museum, the Museo della Civiltà Romana and the Galleria d'Arte Antica. It is important to check the opening hours of each museum, but as a general rule, most government museums will be closed on Mondays.

Architecture

The architecture of Roma is simply amazing, and just walking the streets is sure to be an impressive activity in its own right. Make sure you take the time to stop by the Trevi Fountain, which is one of the most popular places to take in the local atmosphere of the city.

Cuisine

Make sure you come with an empty stomach, because the food on offer here is not only superb, but it is also plentiful and comes in seemingly never-ending portions. Traditional Roman pizza is a great way to snack in between meals, whilst the numerous elaterids will keep your sweet-tooth satisfied.
