The city of Udine is in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy, close to Austria, Slovenia and the Adriatic. The region has activities to suit all visitors, including downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snow boarding in the mountains and closer to the coast hiking, cycling, golf and bird watching.

Beautiful buildings abound in Udine. The hilltop castle dating from 1517 houses the archaeology, photographic and art museums. In the Baroque interior of the cathedral are works by Tiepolo and frescoes by Vitale de Bologna cover the walls of a chapel.
