Travel tips
Gorizia is a somewhat hidden away town in north-east Italy, and certainly one of the region's best kept secrets. One of the town's most attractive is its climate, being uniquely Mediterranean for an otherwise chilled area.
As the town is protected by a mountain range, it does not fall victim to the cold Bora winds that affect the nearby areas. Its historic sights are plentiful and though some were destroyed in the war, many, like the Gorizia Castle, remain intact, and efforts have been made to rebuild much of the others.
The surrounding Gorizia Hills are world famous for their exquisite wines, with whites being the speciality.
