Comacchio in Emilia Romagna sits in a lagoon. Built on more than thirteen islets, the scenic town has beautiful bridges and is reminiscent of Venice.
The iconic Trepponti was built in 1638 and is a symbol for the town. Main attractions include the Ospedale degli Infermi, the historic Manifattura dei Marinati pickling works, the Cathedral of San Cassiano and the Palazzo Bellini. The best views of are from Ponte degli Sbirri.
Po Delta Regional Park has rich natural habitats for the local wildlife, and also offers enchanting cultural sites. Cycling and walking are fun ways to explore fishing huts and workshops on the Comacchio lagoon, with Bird watching also being popular. The lagoon can also be explored by motorboat. The town’s food festival takes place in October, when visitors can sample local eel dishes and enjoy live entertainment.
The coast and its beaches are just three kilometres away. The regional capital of Ravenna is 35 kilometres from Comacchio. The historic city has interesting early Christian monuments from the fifth and sixth centuries.
