Travel tips
The Ligurian Riviera is a stunning area of land in north-western Italy, with beautiful mountains overlooking the Ligurian Sea; ideal for trekking. The riviera consists of Imperia, Savona, La Spezia and the region's capital, Genoa.
Genoa is home to Palazzo Spinola di Pellicceria and the Aquarium, one of the best marine centres in Europe.
Because of the sperm whales and dolphins it attracts, the Ligurian Sea is known as the 'Sanctuary of Cetaceans'; great for snorkeling and scuba diving. In addition, the area offers widespread woods, home to many ancient trees, perfect for walks and exploration.
There are many events and festivals in Liguria every year. For food fanatics, the region is famous for its pesto, olive oil and ravioli.
