Travel tips
Caserta is a province in the Campania region of southern Italy. The province is a mix of gorgeous natural landscapes and peaceful, friendly towns with character and charm.
Sandy beaches dot the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, including the seaside resort of Baia Domizia. The medieval village of Casertavecchia has narrow alleys and a lovely cathedral, while impressive Roman sites are found in Santa Maria Capua Vetere and Sessa Aurunca. The beautiful town of Capua has a variety of palaces, churches and other buildings.
The province’s capital is Caserta, a major economic centre in the region. The city is home to the elegant Reggia di Caserta, an impressive royal palace and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 1,200-room palace evokes images of Versailles and contains a beautiful park with waterfalls, lakes and gardens. Other attractions include the Palazzo Vecchio, an eighteenth century cathedral and the Vanvitelli Square.
Along with an extinct volcano, Roccamorfina Regional Park is a picturesque setting for a variety of outdoor recreation including hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and horseback riding. When the mercury drops, the park is a great place for ice climbing and cross country skiing. The Matese Regional Park is also a pristine spot for enjoying outdoor activities.
The cosmopolitan city of Naples, the famous ruins of Pompeii and the scenic Amalfi Coast are south of Caserta within the Campania region. The islands of Capri and Ischia are also beautiful spots to explore in the Bay of Naples.
