Camping de Fontcouverte
Camping de Fontcouverte, located in the heart of the Haute-Vallée de la Clarée, offers an authentic outdoor experience near Névache, surrounded by larch forests and a mountain stream. Close to Briançon, a UNESCO-listed town, it’s ideal for culture and nature lovers. The campsite features non-designated pitches, allowing guests to choose their spot freely. Facilities include toilets and hot showers (5-minute use for a small fee), but chemical toilet disposal is unavailable—campers can use a designated station at Névache’s entrance. A free-access freezer is provided for cooling ice packs. On-site services include a small grocery store with local products, fresh bread, and hiking maps, as well as camping gas sales and a self-service barbecue. All pets are welcome, but credit cards are not accepted, and no ATMs are in Névache. The campsite is a haven for hikers and nature photographers, with trails leading to Col de l’Échelle and hidden alpine lakes. In summer, traffic is restricted during the day to protect the environment, but guests can access the campsite outside restricted hours, except for camper vans, which have limitations. Camping de Fontcouverte is perfect for those seeking a raw yet comfortable nature retreat amid spectacular alpine landscapes.
